The scientists, from Environment Canada’s Water and Science Technology Branch, have installed a sonic anemometer which produces three-dimensional wind measurements, and an analyzer that gauges water vapor in the air at intervals lasting only tenths of a second. Sensors will keep track of air and water temperature, solar radiation, relative humidity and wind speed and direction. Eventually, plans are to place similar monitors in Lake Huron.

Or Rather the Lantern Room
The latest issue of Lighthouse Digest contained a story about the discovery of a supposedly destroyed lighthouse in Cape Cod, MA, that was found doing duty as the Point Montara Lightstation south of San Francisco, CA. The story was published in the Cape Cod Times and caught the eye of the national and online news, including Yahoo, MSN, Fox, the Washington Post and the Associated Press. Unfortunately, the original story is not available in the Lighthouse Digest online edition, but you can read the full story here by Colleen MacNeney.

New Owners May Move Light Away From Cliff
Although the Belle Toute Preservation Trust didn’t become the owners of the Sussex lighthouse, at least their goal of having the lighthouse as a bed and breakfast will become a reality. The new owners of this lightstation near Beachy Head, Eastbourne have indicated they will be fulfilling the dream of Rob Wassell and the Trust to have it opened to the public, and preserved for generations to come. And that may include moving it away from the crumbling cliffs near which it resides. The final selling price of this landmark light was £500,000 ($991,295 USD), a far cry from the original asking price of £850,000.

The Mystery Woman Of Cuckmere Haven
What is it about lighthouses that evoke romance? Is it the light guiding the way to those who are lost? Perhaps it’s the perseverance, the stability that brings about such thoughts? Or maybe it’s just their beauty. Whatever it is, countless marriages are performed at lighthouses every year. Overnight stays or vacations at lighthouses count among the most popular for couples seeking to spend time together. But what about a romance that hasn’t happened, but might?

How Come I Never Had Such a Fun Project In School?
Combining Social Studies, Science and Language Arts, students at Palms Elementary School in Fair Haven, Michigan, the fourth grade taught by Patti Adams got to do a really neat project for their Michigan Studies curriculum. They built lighthouses. Well, not full size ones, but little working models that will be on display beginning May 30 at the “Michigan Lighthouse Museum” in their classroom. And they will be viewed in the dark, so the lights can shine just like a real one.
