Kimberly Point Park Lighthouse and Restrooms

A private but active lighthouse on Lake Winnebago is possibly headed for the Neenah Register of Historic Places. One of four lighthouses on the lake in Wisconsin, it was constructed in 1945 as a landmark for yacht races on the lake.
The lighthouse was originally planned in 1939 by members of the Kimberly family and when built it was 40 feet tall. It was extended to 49 feet in 1954. It now serves as the park’s restrooms and is surrounded by a picnic area.

Although vandalism in the 1970s caused damage (and a change) to the windows, the lighthouse is still pretty much the same as when it was built. The Parks and Recreation Commission will consider the nomination in July. If approved by the Common Council and confirmed by the Landmarks Commission, the lighthouse would be the 25th landmark on the Neenah register.
And probably the first ever combination lighthouse and restroom in the country to become a local Historic Landmark.
