Man Creates Model of Highland (Cape Cod) Lighthouse

Rich Anderson, of Truro, MA, converted his love for Highland Lighthouse into a working model. And not just any old model. It’s eight feet tall at its highest, and lights up and rotates. So what’s so special about it? Lots of people have decorative outdoor lighthouses, right?
A lot of people are not as “obsessive” or “picky about the little details,” as his wife Debbie says in a story at Wicked Local.com.
Well, the first one he created out of wood rotted (as often happens to our full sized beacons) so for his second attempt, he used such space age materials as Trex® decking, nylon and a polymer called Starboard® which is used for boats in place of teak and other woods. Anderson has knowledge of and access to all these delightful materials as he and his wife own Building 21 Boat Top Company in Rockland, MA.
To build the lighthouse (and it’s very detailed and precise) he used photos and a little model (Harbour Lights® maybe?) that he’d found in a local store. To get the closeup photos he needed, I daresay he spent a lot of time on the golf course. Cape Cod Lighthouse is in the center of the Highland Golf Links, and to quote from Kraig Andersen’s Lighthouse Friends page: “They do not allow you to step on their course, even if you beg and plead.”
Sounds to me like someone tried.
