Price Dropped on Isle Au Haut Property
Well, these are hard economic times, and it is a buyer’s market. The word has gone out that the Lighthouse Keeper’s Inn at the Isle Au Haut (Maine) Lightstation has dropped in price to $2.2 million, down from the original asking price of $2.5 million. I guess that’s something of a bargain, if you have that much money to spend in the first place. It’s also now listed with a real estate agency, the Compass Point Real Estate Company in Blue Hill, Maine. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any listing for the Inn.Just to be clear, the Robinson Point Lighthouse, pictured at left, is not included in the sale. The active light is owned and maintained by the town of Isle Au Haut.
To see a description of the property, you can visit their website at www.keepershouse.com/index.htm. The owners have retired and moved to Arizona and are unable to keep up the property. They bought the neglected building in 1986, renovated it and have operated it as a bed and breakfast. Currently it’s not open for business, with the exception of the weekly rental cottage on the two acre property. So, if you’ve got deep pockets, you might want to make an offer on this unique property. I think I’ll pass. It’s a little too much for my checkbook.
