The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sharon Jones, 57, of Port Ewen, Saturday and charged her with a felony count of third-degree grand larceny. Deputies allege that Jones, who is the acting director and treasurer of the commission, withdrew $5,736.55 from the organization’s bank account and used the funds to pay personal debts.
Jones is the director of the Save Esopus Lighthouse Commission and is scheduled to appear in Kingston city court next week for arraignment. Jones was arraigned in Kingston city court and released to reappear in city court.
The lighthouse commission is a nonprofit group whose mission is to restore the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse, which sits about a quarter-mile off the Esopus shore of the Hudson River (New York).
