The Portland Head (Maine) Lighthouse has been restored to full power by Central Maine Power this afternoon, after running on batteries (and hence a dim light), since the ice storm that hit the Northern New England states this past weekend.
The iconic lighthouse is one of over a million victims of this ice storm, which hit southern Maine and New Hampshire especially hard. In fact, I was without power for a couple of days and even after having it restored, the internet connection was in and out. I normally don’t post apologies for not writing, but since I shared the same problem as Portland Head Lighthouse, I’d let you all know.
Portland Head is one of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine, and is also the oldest in the state, having been commissioned in 1791. And I can’t resist posting the photo below, of Portland Head Lighthouse taken in August 2008 by Ted Kerwin.
