No, not for me, unfortunately. But I’m not a mainstream (yet) publisher of a newspaper. However, one newspaper did win awards for its coverage of the moving of Sankaty Lighthouse (Sankaty, Mass.) this past year. And from no less a prestigious entity as the New England Press Association.
The New England Press Association announced last week that it will honor The Nantucket Independent with five awards for journalism, advertising and photography excellence at its awards banquet on Feb. 7, 2009.
The Independent will take home awards for history reporting for Peter B. Brace’s and Mary Lancaster’s coverage of the moving of Sankaty Head Lighthouse, and a photo series shot by Rob Benchley. It’s not clear in the story if the Sankaty photos were the winning series for Mr. Benchley, but I suspect it was.
Congratulations to the Nantucket Independent. But you wouldn’t have done it without a beloved lighthouse and its supporters.
