The Danish police are holding the Georgia-flagged coaster Yamburg, moored in Hanstholm on the Danish west coast. The captain is charged with colliding with one of the lighthouses in the entrance to Limfjord on Hals Barre. And it’s totally gone.
The Ukrainian captain of the Russian-owned ship denied any contact with the lighthouse, which disappeared into the sea after the collision. However, according to Scandinavian Shipping Gazette, the police have evidence from AIS surveillance clearly showing the coaster heading for the northern side of the fairway right towards the lighthouse.
The 2,700 dwt Yamburg was built in 1977 by Sietas in Hamburg. The incident occurred November 27.
It’s unclear which lighthouse was hit, and a look through the Lighthouse Directory was inconclusive as to which it might be.
