Noting like a soft close to get some action going. All three lighthouses now have bids, and the soft close has been extended by one day (so far) to Dec. 2. Surprisingly, Duluth’s tower has the top bid, at $31,000. The others (in Ohio) are sitting at $10,000 each. That can change in a hurry.
Get Bids In By December 1
The three Great Lakes lighthouses that have been up for auction have finally been put to a date with a soft close. Currently, two of the lighthouses have bids on them, but it’s expected with the soft close that others will come in fast and furious. According to a story at the Duluth News Tribune, (registration may be required) six people have put down $5,000 in earnest money for a chance to view the Duluth Harbor South Breakwater Inner Light Tower last September. But so far, only two have placed bids. If history serves, that will change as the closing nears.
Two of the lighthouses are in Ohio, the Cleveland Harbor East Breakwater, currently sitting at a $5,000 bid, the Conneaut Harbor West Breakwater, with no current bids, and the above mentioned Duluth lighthouse (pictured), with the high bid at $16,000.
Although none of these lighthouses appear suitable for a summer retreat, this is your last chance this year to own an historic, working lighthouse. So if you were planning on bidding, the time to get your deposits down is now. Lighthouse News will keep you updated if the lighthouses go into a bidding war, as always.
