Lawn Lighthouses Stolen

A retired couple in Citrus County, Florida who build lighthouses for extra income woke up Tuesday morning October 7 to find their work had been stolen. And these aren’t miniature lighthouses, either. They’re valued at $1,300. Actually they should be worth more, since they’re built with imported stone. All the way from Michigan, in fact, where they came out of a potato farmer’s field.

Four of the Kilpatrick’s Lighthouses

Marshall and Doris Kilpatrick started building lighthouses about ten years ago, when out of the blue, “some guy” came by and wanted to know if they made any, since he was interested in buying one. They started with wooden lighthouses, but switched to the Michigan stones because they wanted to “build a better looking lighthouse.” No mention of how they get the stones from Michigan to Florida.

And they are nice looking. But heavy. The lighthouses that were stolen were four and five feet tall. The larger, five foot one weighed about 400 pounds, and the four footer was about 200 pounds. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office has put out a request for info if you see the missing lighthouses. Or know anything about the crime. Number to call is 352-726-4488.
