Failing Of The Light

The National Lighthouse Museum, on the St. George waterfront, was a vibrant jewel of preservation and a cornerstone of the community’s renaissance. But it never really got off the drawing board. Now the museum is at the brink of vanishing from the Staten island scene for good.
Those are the words from the article posted at Staten Island Live. It’s a shame, because if it had gone to Mackinaw City, Michigan, in the first place, the museum would have been up and running within months. Unfortunately, according to Terry Pepper, the State Dock, which was the planned site of the museum, is no longer available.
Perhaps the Great Lakes Light Keepers Association can find a new site and take up where New York dropped the ball. Or rather, gave in to private developers. It’s sad. In the meantime, we do have the Maine Lighthouse Museum.
