Faux Lighthouse Shines Bright Again

A lighthouse built in the center of a traffic circle in downtown Brigantine, NJ, has been restored and lit. Thanks to the efforts (and muscle) of city councilman Ralph Aversa, the faux lighthouse, once used as the police station and then as a museum, sports a new coat of paint (white and Lighthouse Red) and a revolving light magnified with a mirror.
Thanks to leaks (even fake lighthouses face this issue) through rotted windows, most of the floors had holes, including the subflooring. Aversa rounded up volunteers and donors, who put new floors and windows into place, and created the light at the top. The tower was never used as an Aid to Navigation, so the homebuilt motor that turns the light is just for decoration.
What to do with this former cop shop and museum? Well, the city of Brigantine has lots of new ideas for its use. Including using it as a romantic restaurant exclusively for two diners at a time. Perhaps through offering it as a special prize with, according to Aversa’s son, Ralph Jr.
