Can Be Yours For Only £650,000 GBP
At least the story at the Daily Record says it’s for sale through unique property specialists Strutt and Parker. I couldn’t find it on their website, though. Usually lighthouses they sell are listed under hot properties, and I even gave them a couple of days to put it up, but so far, nothing. So, relying on the news story, the info is as follows. That is, if you want to spend the money for a lighthouse home, while not actually buying the lighthouse. It’s no longer active, though, so I don’t know if Princess Anne will be visiting it anytime soon. It was recently decommissioned, so the Northern Lighthouse Board may be willing to sell the Killantringan Lighthouse.
The buildings have six bedrooms, and in recent years has been converted into a rental. The property includes the main building (two stories) and a separate cottage. From the story:
The accommodation at the lighthouse includes a large sitting room, study and kitchen on the first floor. The sitting room gives access to the southern and northern terraces as well as a conservatory-style studio on the southern terrace. On the ground floor, two former lighthouse keepers’ flats have been converted to create six bedrooms - two with en suite shower rooms - and a bathroom.
Built by John Adams and Co of Glasgow to a design by David Stevenson, the 49 metre-tall lighthouse began operating on October 1, 1900, to replace one at Portpatrick.
If you’re looking for a ready made lighthouse home, without having to spend the money for one of the offshore auctions, then perhaps a home with views all the way to Ireland will be more to your taste. Time to check the balance in the bank account.
