Warden Head Lighthouse Repaired

The beautiful Warden Head Lighthouse in Ulladulla, NSW, Australia, is the first of fourteen NSW lights to get revamped. Wrapped in scaffolding, it will be getting a new paint job and rust removal over the next several weeks, along with any other damage found from recent vandalism incidents. Funding is provided by the state to the tune of $60,000 AUD.
Minister for Lands Tony Kelly visited the lighthouse on announcing the funding and said it was one of the most ornate and picturesque he’d ever seen. From the story in the Milton-Ulladulla Times:
“The restoration of the lighthouse is part of our plan to restore the 14 lighthouses in NSW,” Kelly said. “We hope to restore the lighthouses and work out an efficient maintenance plan for them. Hopefully this funding will be able to set the lighthouse on the path to restoration.”
Warden Head Lighthouse is unusual in that it is built of curved wrought iron, built at the contractor’s factory and assembled at the site. More information on the history and its keepers can be found at Lighthouses of Australia.
