Twenty five fiberglass lighthouses, each one six feet tall, arrived at the Merry-Go-Round Museum in Sandusky, Ohio, in anticipation of the 2008 Light in the Harbor community art project. Local artists will paint and decorate these miniature beacons and they will be on display around the town from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
After Labor Day, there will be an auction of all the unsold lights, with the monies raised to benefit Erie County United Way, the American Red Cross Firelands Chapter, and the Merry-Go-Round Museum.
“These lighthouses will definitely brighten up the downtown this summer,” said Joyce Leimbach, chairwoman of the Light in the Harbor initiative.
