Roland Babineau at Let’s Talk Lighthouses has a great post detailing all the fun and excitement at the upcoming American Lighthouse Foundation’s Spring Spectacular 2008. Be sure to check it out, and sign up for a great weekend of events May 16, 17 and 18 in Portsmouth, NH. Roland’s Cape Cod Store will be donating a prize in the Lighthouse Trivia Challenge. And guest speaker at the event will be former lighthouse keeper, author and founder of the Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society, Chris Mills.
And while I’m thinking about it, if anyone is planning on taking the Lights Across the Border Challenge on August 9, be aware that new US Homeland Security Rules will be requiring a passport card for passage between the two countries. More info on the card is available at the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative and persons are strongly encouraged to apply for one now, to get it in the spring. Hopefully, anyway. The delays and frustrations of getting a passport have been well-documented, so you don’t want to be late in getting the new passport card. This is for land and sea travel only, and a proposed change to the initiative will be relaxed documentation for children.
Also, don’t be late in signing up, as the price of $15 increases to $25 fifteen days before the event. Participants will be able to visit Head Harbour Lighthouse and Muholland Lighthouse on Campobello Island, NB, and Little River Lightstation, West Quoddy Head and Lubec Channel Lighthouse in Maine.
I hope to see a great turnout at both events, and perhaps I’ll see you at both events.
