Lighthouse Model Briefly On Display

The model of the Bell Rock lighthouse, recently purchased by the Angus (Scotland) Council for £12.000 was briefly on display at the Signal Tower Museum in Arbroath. Unfortunately, it was only out for a few hours, as it will be undergoing restoration in anticipation of its permanent display this summer.
The miniature lighthouse measures about 25 1/2 inches tall by 10 inches wide. It is carved from an actual piece of red sandstone from Bell Rock, upon which the lighthouse was built by Robert Stevenson.
This lighthouse was a feat of engineering, built upon a dangerous rock that is only exposed for a couple of hours at low tide. The small plaque on it reads: “MEMORANDUM This model of the Bell Rock Lighthouse presented by me to my daughter Mrs Warden was cut from the rock at the conclusion of the works in the year 1810 - Robert Stevenson.”
