The bidding on the auction for Point No Point Lighthouse has been delayed until at least January, according to the GSA auction page. A new addendum has been added, explaining the delays. The text of this addendum is below.
POINT NO POINT LIGHTHOUSE
CHESAPEAKE BAY, MD
4-U-MD-0615
The purpose of this Addendum is to notify all bidders and prospective bidders regarding an extension of time of the suspension of bidding for the Point No Point Lighthouse.
1) Due to National security concerns, the Navy has asked the General Services Administration to suspend the bidding for an additional period of time so that they may ensure that their training operations and the public are protected. A decision is expected in early January 2008. Notice to resume bidding will be made available to all registered bidders and posted on www.auctionrp.com as soon as the information is made available to GSA.
2) All registered bidders will have the opportunity to withdraw their bid and/or request the return of their bid deposit.
3) Should the current high bidder decide to withdraw their bid before bidding resumes, then once bidding does resume, bidding would commence at the original opening bid as defined in paragraph 4 of Instructions to Bidders.
All other terms and conditions of the sale remain the same.
Also, a CD is available of more recent photos of the lighthouse for all registered bidders. Nice, but if the Navy continues to use it as a boundary marker for their target practice, who really wants to invest in it? My thoughts? If the Navy is using this light for this purpose, then perhaps they should earmark some of their money towards repairing and maintaining it.
