No Point to Point No PointBidding on Point No Point Lighthouse has been open since September 26, with a flurry of bids placed around October 26, topping out at $135,000, placed by Tiger 6. Checking the website daily, no closing date was ever set, and the bidding stayed open, but going nowhere. Well, checking the GSA site today, I saw that bidding had been suspended temporarily. Why? Because once again the GSA had put something out for bid that shouldn’t have been. But maybe it was the Coast Guard that made the mistake, since the communication between the US Navy and them is generally non-existent.

On the site, it says:

-PLEASE NOTE- The bidding has been temporarily suspended due to the fact that the Navy has notified GSA that the lighthouse serves as a boundary marker for the Navy’s restricted area danger zone as defined in 33 CFR 334.200. For complete details, please read the Addendum #2, which can be downloaded from this page.

To save you the bother, here is the text from the document:

ADDENDUM NUMBER 2

TO

INVITATION FOR BIDS

November 13, 2007

 

POINT NO POINT LIGHTHOUSE

CHESAPEAKE BAY, MD

4-U-MD-0615

 

The purpose of this Addendum is to notify all bidders and prospective bidders of the suspension of bidding for the Point No Point Lighthouse.

1) Bidding is hereby temporarily suspended. The Department of Navy (Navy) has notified the General Services Administration (GSA) that the Point No Point Lighthouse serves as a boundary marker for the Navy’s restricted area danger zone as defined in 33 CFR 334.200 (see attached). Further, the Navy has informed GSA that it may require additional deed restrictions for the use of the lighthouse. Those will be made available to all registered bidders and posted on www.auctionrp.com as soon as they are made available to GSA.

2) All registered bidders will have the opportunity to withdraw their bid and request the return of their bid deposit.

3) Should the current high bidder decide to withdraw their bid, bidding shall commence at the original opening bid as defined in paragraph 4 of Instructions to Bidders, in the Invitation to Bid (IFB)

Bidding shall resume once GSA is in receipt of Navy’s additional deed restrictions, if any. Receipt is expected within 7 days of the date of this Addendum.

All other terms and conditions of the sale remain the same.



So what is going on? This is the second time that the GSA has put out something that was withdrawn, due to someone’s mistake. The mix up over which Saybrook Lighthouse was available still hasn’t really been resolved. So come on, GSA, please get the facts in order before you get someone’s bid.
