“Guiding Lights” To Be Sold at Auction

Little Point Sable Light Photo by Terry Pepper for NPSTaking a tip from several other cities that have done this, the Little Point Sable Lighthouse Seekers, in conjunction with the Hart, Silver Lake, Mears Chamber of Commerce have had local artists create twelve “Guiding Lights,” which are six and a half feet tall lighthouse replicas. These lights are on display at participating businesses throughout Oceana County through September, when they will be auctioned to the highest bidder. Bids can be placed at each lighthouse, with minimum amounts of $125 USD.

Portland, Maine, did “Lighthouses on Parade” in the summer of 2003, with 100 ten foot tall lighthouses decorated by local artists and auctioned off in the fall. One hundred percent of the profits were donated to charity. All profits from “Guiding Lights” will be to benefit restoration efforts at Little Point Sable Lighthouse.
